Make Your Voice Heard on Capitol Hill with AAUW!
For more than 40 years, AAUW Action Fund Capitol Hill Lobby Corps volunteers have conducted tens of thousands of visits to congressional offices on behalf of AAUW members and supporters. Their hard work, dedication, and effective lobbying techniques have earned the respect of members of Congress and their staffs. These weekly in-person advocacy efforts are a diverse program unique to AAUW — and now you have the opportunity to join in during AAUW’s 2017 National Convention!
“AAUW and its Lobby Corps program represent the voices of women in all fields of study, professions, and occupations,” said Marcy Leverenz, Lobby Corps chair. “Lobby Corps volunteers have a wide range of experiences, both personal and professional, and I want to be around these thoughtful women. This is why I lobby. Thursday mornings are my avocation.”
In 2016, AAUW members across the country successfully worked to pass six state equal pay laws, advocated for the enforcement of Title IX and other civil rights laws, and spoke out on behalf of key education legislation. With members and supporters in all 50 states, the AAUW Action Network ensures members’ voices are heard on important policy issues.
These successes would not have been possible without the effective grassroots strategies and techniques implemented by members and supporters. AAUW’s research-based advocacy and in-person meetings continue to reinforce the thousands of personalized notes and handwritten letters constituents send to members of Congress to emphasize the importance of our advocacy work on behalf of women and girls. As we prepare for the changing political climate, your voice is needed now more than ever.
The enduring commitment of AAUW Action Fund Lobby Corps volunteers to advocacy and advancing gender equity underscores the importance of the volunteer citizen activist. By participating in Lobby Day at the 2017 National Convention, you too can hone your advocacy skills and apply them to meetings on Capitol Hill, at your statehouse, and in your community.
AAUW believes in speaking truth to power, and during Lobby Day our members will provide a critical yet balanced voice on issues important to women and girls. Join us for the 2017 National Convention Lobby Day and stand up for gender equity. You provide the voice — we’ll provide the megaphone!
